I am hoping you have had a glimpse of enlightenment as we talk about Ho oponopono. That would make the understanding of this practice a snap! Which is why I created this as one of the last sections in my web site.
But even if you have not, you can still explore this
fascinating healing system now. Later, you go back to the section on Enlightenment where you will learn how your identity is one with the universe.
I first came across this new knowledge when I was spending time with my son in Singapore, sometime in March 2013. He is deeply into philosophy, and has a sizable collection of books in his library. Whenever I am in his home, I look through his bookshelves hoping to find something new!
So I was in his apartment browsing through the titles, and I noticed this book, Zero Limits. The headline on the cover proclaimed, featuring the ancient Hawaiian teachings of Ho'oponopono. The subtitle read, “The Secret Hawaiian System For Wealth, Health, Peace & More”.
It was written by Joe Vitale - I remembered the name (and you might remember too) in the context of another book “The Secret”, as well as the movie by that same name in which he appears. The coauthor was Ihaleakala Hew Len, PhD – I had never heard that name before.
I was intrigued and wanted to know more...
There was a quote on the first page:
Ho oponopono is a profound gift that allows one to develop a working relationship with the Divinity within and learn to ask that in each moment, our errors in thought, word, deed, or action be cleansed. The process is essentially about freedom, complete freedom from the past.

Preface
Where Peace Begins
Dear Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona, the creator and first
master teacher of Self I-Dentity Ho'oponopono, had on her desk a placard that
read, “Peace begins with me.”
I witnessed this peace beyond all understanding as I worked and traveled with her from December 1982 to that fateful day in Kirchheim, Germany, in February 1992. Even as she lay in death on her bed surrounded by chaos, she exuded that stillness beyond all understanding.
It was my great good fortune and honor to have received the training from Morrnah in November 1982 and to have been in her presence for a decade. I have been doing Self I-Dentity Ho’oponopono ever since. I am pleased that, with the help of my friend Dr. Joe Vitale, this message can now reach the world.
But the truth is it only has to reach you, through me, as we are all one and it all happens inside.
Peace
of I,
Ihaleakala

Now I was fully convinced that there is going to be some exciting information here. I carried the book, sat in a couch, and started reading…
Something amazing happened after the first day’s reading, which I will describe further down. I finished the book in two more days. Later, my son let me have his copy of the book and I brought it back with me.
Ho'oponopono (pronounced Ho oponopono ) means, ‘to make right’, or rectify an error. According to the ancient Hawaiians, all physical imbalances and disease are caused by painful memories of the past that exist within you, and recurring thoughts triggered by these painful memories replaying all the time.
According to this system of healing, YOU created everything in the universe, including everyone and everything in your life. And therefore you are responsible for everyone’s problem. Including your own, of course.
And so, as you work on yourself and erase your tainted thoughts and memories, not only you, but also those who are intimately connected in your life, get cured of all kinds of problems!
The healing practice consists of four powerful phrases, all addressed to the divine (don’t forget – divine includes the universe, your self, and everything and everyone!). Here are the magic phrases, with their connotations:
I Love You
These are the three most powerful words in the universe. A phrase that connects YOU to the universe. So you begin by acknowledging this intimate relationship!
I Am Sorry
This is an expression of your repentance for having harbored the painful memories and thoughts. You may not even be aware of many of those past memories - You don’t have to be! Because “divinity” knows, and will take care of it!!
So you say to divinity “I am sorry for whatever is going on inside of me that is manifesting as the problem (spell out the problem, either your own, or of anyone else you are interested in).”
Please Forgive Me
This statement follows the previous expression, “I am Sorry…” (It can also be a continuation of the repentance statement “I am sorry…” But there has to be an emphasis on the phrase “Please Forgive Me”, because you are asking for forgiveness.
Thank You
You are now thanking divinity (the universe…) for all the good things bestowed upon you in life, and for taking care of you thus far. You are also expressing your faith that the issue will be resolved. This expression of gratitude and faith is a very powerful component of the healing process.
According to Ho'oponopono, when you petition divinity by using these four phrases, the divine power erases the painful memories of the past and restores your mind to its original state of Zero, meaning void.
After your conscious and subconscious have been restored to this Zero state, divinity fills the void with pure love and inspiration. Now all your actions are guided by this inspiration as opposed to being guided by old memories replaying.
There are only two ways to live your life – from memories, or from inspiration. Once you have erased your memories and filled your mind with inspiration, only the good will come your way, in whatever you do! That is the secret of peace beyond all understanding!!
A Mind Blowing Miracle in Singapore!
I was telling you about something amazing that happened after the first day of reading Zero Limits and practicing Ho'oponopono sitting in my son’s home.
About four months prior to my trip to Singapore, I started with some kind of pain in my left heel. As I woke up in the morning and set my left foot on the floor, it hurt badly. After a few minutes the pain would subside, but would return after some walking.
My initial suspicion was on my worn out walking shoes. So I shopped around and bought the best available orthopedic sneakers. I went around foot mapping on one of those automatic machines and bought some expensive orthotic inserts.
These
helped to some extent, but the pain never completely disappeared. My physician thought it was the onset of plantar
fasciitis, and referred me to a podiatrist. But I never went to the foot doctor because I was afraid he would push me into surgery.
As I kept reading about Ho’oponopono, I was so impressed and inspired that I wanted to try the power of the four phrases to cure my heel pain.
So I focused on divinity for a few minutes and said “I love You”, “I am sorry for whatever is in me that is causing this heel pain”, “Please Forgive Me”, and “Thank You for all the wonderful things you have brought in my life”. I repeated these words once more that night before going to sleep.
The next morning when I
woke up, my heel pain was gone!
Never another day of
pain!!
Even till today, as I write this in September 2013!!!

Recall Dr. Sarno’s theory of T.M.S from the mind body section of this site?
In the T.M.S solution, the subconscious memories/repressed thoughts are brought to surface, to the conscious level, and the pain disappears.
But with Ho'oponopono, as the healing takes place, the memories and thoughts are also completely erased from your subconscious as well as conscious levels!
Not only does the pain disappear,
but also do the bad memories and thoughts!
Wow!!
I hope this profound knowledge will help you heal yourself, or your family, or anyone else in your life.
May the "Peace of I" be with you...
